How Long Can We Do Mum and Baby Yoga?

Our Mum and Baby Yoga classes are perfect for babies from six weeks old (once you’ve been cleared by your healthcare provider) up until they start crawling. This stage is ideal for gently introducing movement, bonding, and sensory development while your baby is still content to lie or sit close to you during the practice.

As your baby grows and becomes more active, the focus of your yoga journey may shift, but these early classes provide a strong foundation of connection and physical wellbeing for both you and your baby. Enjoy this special time together while it lasts!

Do I Need Yoga Experience?

No previous yoga experience is necessary to join our Mum and Baby Yoga classes. Whether you’re new to yoga or returning after some time, the classes are designed to be gentle and adaptable to your needs.

When starting or returning to yoga, it’s important to listen to your body. Some days you may feel more energetic than others, and that’s perfectly normal. These sessions encourage you to move at your own pace and practice with mindfulness, making it a supportive space for all levels.

What If My Baby Cries During Class?

It’s completely normal for babies to cry, and it’s all part of the experience! Mum and Baby Yoga is a relaxed and supportive environment where you can tend to your baby’s needs without any pressure or judgment.

Whether they need feeding, a nappy change, or just a cuddle, you’re free to take a moment to care for them. We’re here to make sure you and your baby feel comfortable and supported throughout the class. Sometimes, simply being in the calm and soothing atmosphere helps settle little ones. ❤️

Can I Bring Twins?

Absolutely! Our classes are open and welcoming to mums with twins. We understand that managing two little ones can be a unique challenge, so you’re encouraged to move at your own pace.

If you need extra support during the class, let me know ahead of time, and I’ll do my best to ensure you and your babies have everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable session. Mum and Baby Yoga is all about creating a nurturing and inclusive space for everyone!

Do Babies Do Yoga?

In baby yoga classes, babies can indeed “do yoga,” but it’s tailored to their developmental needs. While they don’t perform poses like adults, they engage in gentle movements and stretches guided by the caregiver, which support physical and cognitive development. These movements can help improve flexibility, coordination, and digestion while promoting body awareness. For instance, simple stretches like moving the baby’s legs in a cycling motion can aid digestion and relieve colic.

The sessions are baby-led, meaning if your baby is asleep, they’re left undisturbed. If awake, they’re guided through activities designed to enhance their motor skills and sensory awareness. These activities often involve a lot of eye contact, touch, and interaction, which are beneficial for bonding and emotional development. The tactile nature of these sessions also helps create a calm, supportive environment for both babies and their parents.

Looking for Pediatric First Aid?

As part of supporting parents and their little ones, we previously offered Pediatric First Aid courses to help parents feel prepared and confident. While we now focus on our Mum and Baby Yoga classes, these sessions also provide a nurturing environment where parents can learn techniques to soothe, bond with, and support their babies’ well-being.

Here’s how these classes benefit your baby:

Enhances bonding and trust: Gentle touch and movement help build a deep sense of connection and security between you and your baby, creating somatic trust that supports their emotional and physical development.

Supports sensory and motor development: Through carefully guided movements, your baby begins to develop proprioceptive awareness—their ability to sense their body in space. This foundational skill helps them grow more comfortable in their body and surroundings.

Encourages brain development: Engaging in rhythmic movement and sensory activities stimulates neural pathways, aiding in healthy brain growth during this critical stage of development.

Promotes calm and relaxation: The soothing environment of the class helps babies settle and can improve sleep patterns, as the gentle exercises are just the right amount of stimulation to tire them out in a positive way.

Builds social skills: Although babies are too young for direct interaction, being in a room with other babies introduces them to social environments, an important step in their early development.

"Happy mum, happy baby."

A Safe, Supportive Space for You and Your Baby

We understand that every baby has their own rhythm. Whether your little one needs to feed, wants to make noise, or requires a quick nappy change, it’s all part of the experience. There’s no judgment—just a supportive space where you can tend to your baby’s needs without worry.

Classes typically last around 45 minutes—just the right amount of time, as even small activities have a big impact on babies’ mental and physical energy. Afterward, they’ll often be ready for a nap while you enjoy a sense of accomplishment and connection.

Bring your smile, your baby, and leave any expectations at the door. This is your time to bond, relax, and celebrate the small wins of motherhood—even if that’s simply making it to class!

Baby Yoga Techniques and Their Benefits

1. Leg Cycling:

Gently moving the baby’s legs in a cycling motion can help relieve gas and discomfort, improve circulation, and enhance coordination. This movement is often soothing for babies who experience colic, helping them to feel more relaxed and comfortable.

2. Gentle Twists:

Very subtle twisting motions, where you gently guide your baby’s body, can help with digestion and improve flexibility. It also encourages the baby to develop body awareness and flexibility.

3. Tummy Time Support:

Supported tummy time is an essential part of baby yoga. This position strengthens neck and shoulder muscles and helps babies develop the ability to lift their head, which is crucial for motor development. It also reduces the risk of flat head syndrome.

4. Stretching Arms and Legs:

Gently stretching and extending your baby’s arms and legs can enhance muscle tone and flexibility. It promotes physical development and supports better movement coordination.

5. Baby Massage:

Lightly massaging the baby’s limbs and back during yoga helps with relaxation, bonding, and circulation. It can reduce stress, improve sleep patterns, and even aid in digestion.

6. Eye Contact & Touch:

Encouraging regular eye contact and touch during movements helps to strengthen the emotional bond between parent and baby. This tactile interaction promotes sensory development, improves brain connectivity, and builds trust between parent and baby.

7. Sound and Song:

Incorporating soft, soothing sounds or songs in the class can stimulate the baby’s auditory senses, creating a calm and nurturing environment. This also helps with emotional regulation and builds the foundations for language development.
